as last.fm is my witness, I guarantee that I listened to as much if not more music than any professional critic. Lots of iPod time and lots of time without a day job.

You'd be surprised at how much music is available from musicians to sample for free. The industry has changed and will continue to change. Just the other day, Matthew Ryan wrote on his blog that he encourages fans to burn copies of his songs and give them to friends.
