U2's "The Joshua Tree."
Released on my birthday in 1987 (March 9, yep coming up), The Joshua Tree truly broke U2 onto the mainstream music scene. I won't focus too much on the album itself, seeing as I'm trying to focus on the covers. The photo was taken by Anton Corbijn, somewhat ironically in Death Valley, rather than the assumed Joshua Tree National Park. Anton does at least three things that were taught to my in every photography I've taken.
1. Don't center your subject.
2. Use your subject to block a major background feature if it draws the eye to your subject.
3. In a portrait, have your subject stare off into their own mortality. Bono's mortality is apparently somewhere different than the rest of the band.
